Thank you for this valuable perspective. I did not identify sexual orientation in my interviews so I have not offered a perspective from one orientation or another but if you identify it as straight then I am glad to have an alternate perspective presented here.
I think it is only in offering optional life perspectives that we can embrace change and challenge our own set ways.
Thank you for sharing the perspective of our wise sisters
I have to disagree that women and friendship and the supposed multi-tasking aspect of women’s lives is normative to all groups of women. Lesbians have very strong friendship networks, and also collections of former partners which often act as a very valuable chosen family network. We do not serve husbands, and 60% plus of us don’t have children. So we live outside this idea that is very heteronormative but completely alien to successful lesbian existence in the world. We don’t suddenly discover friendship at an older age, we aren’t waiting to reinvent this wheel, friendship is essential to lesbian nation and values worldwide, and we have much to teach about the libertion of women from patriarchy, including the idea that women must serve everyone but themselves.
